How to Avoid a Potential Medical Malpractice Case
Being affected by a medical malpractice case does not only affect you; the misdiagnosis negatively affects the doctor and his or her medical career. Every year, medical malpractice has killed over 200,000 patients in the United States. To potentially prevent a medical malpractice case from ever occurring, there are ways to establish a good relationship with your doctor.
Making the Right Medical Diagnosis
To make sure that a person avoids as many medical malpractice cases as possible, it is best for him or her to make an appointment with a specialist, depending on the symptoms and type of illness. That person should also have, in writing, all of the symptoms that he or she is experiencing. The person must be truthful in what he or she writes because there have been far too many cases where the person forgets to tell the doctor other experienced symptoms.
It is also important for a person to know his or her medical history, as there may be traces of diseases and other medical conditions that run through the person’s family tree. The person may also want to bring in his or her medications, so the doctor knows that the person is taking the correct dosage, or if there is wrong information with the prescription.
When at the doctor’s office, the patient should describe in complete detail how he or she is feeling, but should never end in a conclusion as to what the medical problem is. If the person does this, then all other causes for the medical problem have been excluded, and the doctor may also conclude that the patient’s “observation” is true. The patient should also indicate how sharp or dull any pain is, and if there is any severe nausea involved.
It is also a good idea to ask the doctor what to expect. This way, the person will know what other symptoms to watch out for when prescribed medication and if a diagnosis has been officially made.
